Hi, I'm Natalie Parmenter

I'm a former elementary school teacher and the founder of Primary Focus: The Parent’s Guide to Elementary School. Primary Focus teaches parents everything teachers wish they knew—from how to thrive in the classroom to how to keep learning at home. My mission is to empower parents with the tools they need to navigate each stage of their child’s education.

I empower parents to confidently guide their children from preschool to 5th grade. Through expert advice and approachable strategies, I help foster academic growth, strong school partnerships, and a lifelong love of learning.

After a decade of teaching, I realized that the disconnect between parents and teachers could make it harder for students to succeed. I created Primary Focus to bridge the gap between parents and teachers, giving parents the knowledge and resources they need to support their child's education.

My Background

With 10 years of teaching experience, I’ve taught in a variety of settings in North Carolina and internationally. I’ve taught fifth grade, first grade, and kindergarten, and spent two years teaching first grade in Hanoi, Vietnam. I’ve worked with schools using the Leader in Me program and the IB Primary Years Programme, and I’m passionate about bringing different educational philosophies to the table.

I earned my Bachelor's from California State University, Northridge as part of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), followed by a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. I’m also a proud Teach For America '12 corps member.

In 2022, I decided to transition out of the classroom and dedicate myself full-time to creating content for Primary Focus, where I continue to support parents in making learning enjoyable and effective.

My Approach

Through my YouTube channel, newsletter, and educational content, I break down the complexities of education and give parents practical strategies to use at home. I believe that when parents understand how their child is learning, they can better support them both in school and beyond. I cover everything from setting academic goals to choosing the right school for your child.

I live in North Carolina with my husband and two cats, and we love traveling, biking, and trying new restaurants. I’m excited to support you as you navigate your child’s educational journey!
