This Thursday begins the shortest longest month of the year for preschool and lower elementary school teachers. If this is your first year with your child in school, buckle up! There's so much going on in February!
Let's talk about February
- Groundhog's Day Admittedly my favorite holiday, this whacky tradition kicks off a month of events on 2/2.
- Lunar New Year The year of the Dragon begins on 2/10.
- 100th Day of School This elementary school holiday usually falls in late January to mid February. It's become increasingly "extra" over the past few years.
- Valentine's Day The day of love falls on 2/14, get ready for a class party on a Wednesday.
- Leap Year For the first time in 4 years, February will have 29 days. Good luck explaining why this happens to a 5 year old. It's common for teachers/families to make a time capsule on leap day.
- Black History Month All month long schools will have different curriculum and special events to celebrate.
- Presidents Day / Super Bowl / Inclement Weather Sending my best to teachers living in the Bay Area and Kansas the day after the Super Bowl. My apologies to the presidents getting upstaged by a groundhog. And best of luck rescheduling all these class parties after school is canceled for snow.
- Read Across America Week And after all that- they try to kick off the first week in March with a themed week. Sorry Dr. Seuss, I usually skipped this one 😂
February was a very fun time, but also extremely busy. I went to work in costume at least once a week and made a lot of crafts with my students. If you find your child's teacher is simultaneously hard to get a hold of and communicating nonstop- this is probably why. Parents, do you feel the same hectic energy this time of year?

🧻 storage solution: My half bathroom has no storage in it and is very small. My husband bought this thin rolling cart. It slides between the toilet and the wall. We've been using it for almost 2 months and it's perfect. It's the width of a roll of toilet paper. I would recommend it to anyone needing clever storage.
🐲 great book: If you want to talk to your children about the Lunar New Year, this book is a great pick! Try to say "Lunar New Year" instead of "Chinese New Year" because many countries celebrate with their own traditions.
👀 eye need it: Some of you may have been following my contacts "journey" on instagram stories. I've had a few people suggest these eye drops to me and they are amazing. If you get dry eyes in the winter, I highly recommend them. Amazon has the best price for them by far.
🧥 Cozy Chic: As I write this, I'm wearing one of my winter time staples. My hoodie dress is so comfortable, but also looks fashionable. I bought this last year and wear it all the time. I especially like it on those days in the 40s/50s when you need to dress in layers.
