How I teach author and illustrator Whole Brain Teaching

These are the gestures I use to teach the title, author, and illustrator to my kindergarten and first grade students. I use these with every book we read.

Title: I explain to students the title is the name of the book. If we had titles, it would be our name like The Natalie Book. I say "the title, or the name of the book is ___" while framing my face with a smile.

Author: "The author writes or types the words" while gesturing writing and typing.

Illustrator: "The illustrator draws the picture" I explain that I'm pretending to hold a paint brush to paint a smiley face. 🙂
