Kids, the Olympics, and Learning

How can you turn the Olympics into a fun learning opportunity?

The Olympics are on through August 11! This is an incredible time to enrich your child's understanding of the world.

3 ways to use the Olympics as an educational opportunity:

๐ŸŒŽ Geography: As you watch, locate countries on the map. Ask your child to observe what continent it's on, bordering countries, its capital, and landmarks like seas or mountain ranges.

๐ŸŒ Flags: When each player's name is shown on tv, they will have their flag next to it. This is a great time to discuss flags because your child will have a memory to associate it with. I recommend having a placemat like this handy with a world map on one side and flags on the other.

๐ŸŒ Culture + Language: Research how to say hello or count to five in different languages. If you watch a sport that isn't popular, research what countries it is popular in. Some sports like handball and rugby have huge followings outside of the United States.
